Oh, May.

Some days, I feel like we’re in the home stretch, and other days, I wish it were still March. My kids have 19 school days left this year. I’m not sure why I do this year after year, but I wait until there are only a few weeks of school left to start doing things like go to the dentist, get my hair cut, have my eyes checked, go to the doctor, etc. It’s like all of a sudden, summer break isn’t some dreamy idea far off in the distant future. It’s barreling at me fast, and I have to accomplish all of these things that are much better done without children in tow. I checked “dentist” off the list today. Yeah, me!

On top of all these extra tasks I’ve saved up for myself, there seem to be all kinds of things suddenly going on at school – muffins with mom, donuts with dad, field day, teacher’s appreciation week, Neely’s kindergarten program… somewhere, somehow, I’m supposed to manage all the regular life stuff, too.

I know I need to suck it up and stop whining. I don’t really want to look back and check, but I’m fairly certain my last 17 blog posts are about how overwhelmed I am. Nobody feels sorry for me. I know that, because I’m pretty sure a lot of us are riding in the same boat.

What I’m beginning to realize is this…

It’d be nice if it were socially acceptable for me to rage out and smash things when I start to feel the walls closing in. I’ll have to stick with happy hour Fridays on the block for now. 😉 I’m going to survive the month of May. And after I do, I’m going to Disneyland.

For real.

It’s a busy week for this travel agent.

Wow, what a week! I know it’s not over yet, but I feel like I should write something now that I have a short moment to come up for air. After a relatively slow summer, Disney is kicking me in the behind this week with two new promotions – military salute 2014-2015 and a late fall room discount – released practically on top of each other.

I may or may not have been wandering the neighborhood in my pajamas at 2:00pm yesterday, retrieving my children from the playground, because I got on the phone to get discounts for my clients as soon as I rolled out of bed and hadn’t seen the light of day yet. Sorry, neighbors. It probably won’t be the last time, so I’ll go ahead and apologize for future pajama sightings, too.

Also, I’m pretty sure I’m starting to get crazy eyes…

You know, from staring at the computer screen and listening to too much Disney hold music. I’m taking a short breather today to try and fix that. 2015 rates are out next week, so it ain’t over yet!

Taking Care of Myself

I feel like such a big girl. I went to the doctor today for a physical! I’m being completely serious when I tell you that this is something I have never done as an adult. I know. What?!

I go to the dentist regularly. I have my eyes checked (sort of) regularly. I’ll make an appointment when I’m sick, but I guess since for a few years of my life I was constantly having my weight, heartbeat, and blood pressure monitored by the OB/GYN, I didn’t think it was necessary to have another doctor poking at me.

I’m five years beyond having my last baby at this point, so I figured it was finally time to be a real grown up and go to the doctor. I did the easy part today, and I’m in pretty good shape. I do have low-ish blood pressure (who knew?? no one has ever told me this before), but since I don’t faint or have dizzy spells, it’s all good! I’ve got to go back later in the week, when I’ve fasted for at least eight hours (yuck!), and get blood work done for cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid, etc. No news is good news, so here’s hoping I don’t get a phone call when it’s all said and done. 🙂

How about you? Has everyone else been getting a physical regularly? Am I weird?

Friday Five!

take five design

This is new. It’s Friday. I feel like writing something, so I’m calling it the Friday Five. I may make this a weekly thing. I may not. We’ll see. I will limit myself to telling you five things. 🙂

1. My daughter is five. I couldn’t resist this one. She walked up behind me, so the number on the screen, and said, “Hey! That’s how many I am!”

2. On Monday, my newest nephew Henry made me an auntie again! It is times like this that I wish we lived closer to home. I have to wait until Easter weekend to meet him.

3. I have only had to watch/listen to Frozen twice this week. I think my mother-in-law bore most of the burden of excitement around this DVD release while I was away last week. It was a blessing in disguise, though, as I cannot even hear the first 15 minutes of this movie without suppressing sobs. I think this is because we saw Frozen in the theater the day after my grandmother died. The beginning of the movie is sad, yes, but I’m not usually this bad. Praise the Lord that it wasn’t Up we saw that day.

4. My little man’s birthday banner is still hanging in my kitchen. I might just leave it up until my birthday next month. I’ll start telling people I’ve decorated for myself early. 😉

5. I’ve been home almost a full week, and I am still dreaming about the Disney Dream. I may have to skip ahead in my chronology from last week so I can show it to you. The ship is aptly named. I really, really, really, really want to go on a Disney cruise.

Five things! I’m already done. Have a wonderful weekend!
